Thank You, Pure Leisure Group!

Beechwood was fortunate to once again be a beneficiary of Pure Leisure Group’s generosity when the group donated the magnificent sum of £50,000!

Beechwood Cancer Care Centre and St. John’s Hospice in Lancaster, the two beneficiary charities, attended PLG’s head office on a gloriously sunny, crisp January day for an official presentation with John Morphet, PLG’s founder and successful entrepreneur, together with members of the PLG team. As long-standing supporters of Beechwood Cancer Care, PLG’s dedicated fundraising efforts over the years are testament to the kindness, sincerity, and generosity of John and the company.

The total donated across both charities was a combination of business profit contribution and their 2023 ‘charity pot’, which accrued £5 from each holiday booking. PLG’s incredible £50,000 donation to Beechwood will greatly assist us in not only continuing our support to those affected by cancer, but will enable us to enhance our service offer, as below:

drop-in support groups for parents of children with cancer
extending male-specific services tailored towards those affected by prostate cancer
breast cancer support groups for women completing their cancer treatment, yet still in need of support
specific therapeutic support for women experiencing difficult menopausal symptoms following cancer treatment
collaborating with NHS oncology teams to provide Health & Wellbeing days for specific cancer groups

Commenting on the donation, John said: “We are absolutely delighted to be able to offer such substantial donations to two charities that we know from our guest and owner communities, make a real difference to people living in both Stockport and Lancaster.

“The work they do for individuals and families experiencing unimaginably hard times is simply priceless and so when it came to selecting our charity recipients for 2024 it was an easy choice. We’d like to take the opportunity to thank both Beechwood and St John’s for their amazing work and hope the cash boost enables them to continue their vital roles in the communities in which they operate.”

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid does not cost you a penny more, but can add an additional 25p to every £1 you donate. When Beechwood Cancer Care receives a donation from a UK taxpayer, we're entitled to claim an amount of tax (calculated at the basic rate of income tax in that year) paid on that donation. Once you have given your permission for us to do this on your behalf, there is no need for you to do anything else.

All that is required is that you must be a taxpayer and that would have paid or will pay sufficient Income and/or Capital Gains Tax to cover all the Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year. Please note that it is your responsibility to pay any difference.

The amount of tax we claim will be 25% of the total value of your donations in that tax year. Furthermore, if you are a higher taxpayer, you are also entitled to claim the difference between the basic rate which we will claim and the amount of tax you have actually paid. If your tax situation changes and your gifts will no longer be eligible for the Gift Aid scheme please contact us and we will amend your record accordingly.
