About The Charity

Beechwood is a small Charity based in Stockport, established in 1990 to support people from across the Northwest affected by cancer.

 

Our team of professionals are available to help with the shock of diagnosis and the emotional effects of treatment, complemented by a wide variety of practical support – not only for the person directly affected but family and friends too.

The Charity’s services are free of charge at point of need, and we offer a package of support tailored to suit the individual, including one-to-one counselling, clinical hypnotherapy, mindfulness for health, complementary therapies, support groups, workshops to name but a few.

In addition:

  • We help children come to terms with the illness or loss of a parent or family member.
  • We help carers cope with the difficulties and uncertainty that the illness of a loved one can bring.
  • We support clients who are ready to move on, exploring on-going support options.
  • We provide guidance and support to those ready to return to work.
  • We provide one-to-one support, facilitated groups and peer support groups to help the bereaved.

Purpose of Job

We are looking for an experienced Receptionist, who can confidently act as first point of contact for all visitors and callers to Beechwood Cancer Care Centre.

The Receptionist will provide a warm, friendly and inviting welcome to all visitors, whilst remaining professional and discrete.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential for this role, with the confidence and personality to liaise with service users, both in person and over the phone.

The Receptionist must uphold the Charity’s values and be keen to be part of a team supporting those affected by cancer.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Reception Duties

  • To act as first point of contact for clients/service users/visitors contacting the Centre
  • To portray the Charity in the highest possible professional manner, ensuring all visitors receive a warm and respectful greeting
  • Represent the Charity with a positive attitude and smart appearance
  • Ensure enquiries from visitors and clients, either face to face, by telephone or email are efficiently and courteously processed
  • Ensure all basic health and safety procedures are followed for visitors e.g. signing in
  • Receiving and directing calls, taking accurate messages, ensuring they reach recipients in a timely manner
  • Checking voicemails each day and passing messages to the relevant colleague
  • Booking and changing appointments on Beechwood’s booking system
  • Supporting the Business Support Officer with general administration tasks with the ability to use Word and Excel documents unsupervised
  • Creating and maintaining effective systems on Reception
  • Promoting and dealing with enquiries regarding new groups and workshops
  • Processing ad hoc payments and recording sales accurately
  • Ensuring time-critical tasks are completed by the end of each day, raising any issues or outstanding tasks immediately to the relevant colleague

Responsibility/Accountability – working with other colleagues

  • Support and liaise closely with the other Receptionist/s to ensure the smooth flow from morning to afternoon reception duties
  • Willing to offer cover for leave/sickness/ad hoc in-house support evenings
  • Actively participate in team meetings to provide and receive support from the team
  • Actively engage in external, in-house or on-the-job training
  • Attend regular one to one management supervision meetings in line with organisational requirements

Experience
Previous reception experience
Experience of using telephone systems
Working knowledge of GDPR regulations
Experience of working with appointment systems
Experience of working for a Charity and/or health care environment
Qualifications
Good level of general education incl. English and Mathematics
